Hey everyone, we’ve rolled into April and the first quarter of 2024 is already behind us. Remember the buzz around the Hyundai Creta facelift at the beginning of the year? Well, brace yourselves because we’re gearing up for the launch of the Mahindra XUV 3X0 and the Altroz Racer. But hold on to your seats because the most awaited car of the year is still on the horizon – the Tata Curvv, set to take on the Hyundai Creta. Let’s dive into everything we know about this exciting new SUV.
Tata Curvv – What’s on the Outside?
Back in February, Tata Motors gave us a glimpse of the almost-ready-to-roll Curvv at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Show. Staying true to their promise, the production model bears a striking resemblance to its concept version. Upfront, it sports a familiar face, reminiscent of recent Tata SUVs, complete with sleek LED DRLs and vertically-stacked LED headlamps. The grille seems to take cues from the Harrier facelift. What sets the Curvv apart is its coupe-like design with a floating roofline, deviating from the typical SUV look. We’re anticipating 18-inch alloy wheels, mirroring the concept car, and Land Rover-inspired flush door handles. At the back, the sloping roofline gives it a distinctive look, complemented by a twin spoiler setup and interconnected LED tail lamps.
Inside the Curvv
Stepping inside, the interior carries the familiar Tata SUV vibe. Spy shots reveal a Nexon-inspired two-spoke steering wheel with a lit-up Tata logo. There’s a 10.25-inch touchscreen system, likely for the base or mid-variant, with the top-end expected to boast a 12.3-inch display. Additionally, the Curvv will feature a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and touch-based AC controls. Some sneaky spy shots also hint at purple accents on the seats, door panels, and dashboard, reminiscent of the Nexon’s purple charm. While the overall dashboard layout is expected to echo the Nexon’s, the EV version might flaunt a brighter interior theme.
As for features, gear up for dual-zone climate control, a wireless charging pad, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, head-up display, 45W type-C USB charging, sequential turn indicators, ambient lighting, blind-spot monitor, and much more. The EV variant might come with specialized features like V2V and V2L charging.
Under the Hood – Specs and More
Tata has spilled the beans only on the diesel variant’s engine details. It’s set to house the 1.2-litre diesel engine from the Nexon, churning out 113bhp & 260Nm of torque, paired with AMT and manual transmissions. The petrol engine specs remain under wraps, but Tata offers two options – 1.2-litre TGDi & 1.5-litre TGDi. Our bet is on the new 1.5-litre TGDi, as Tata previously hinted at introducing it first in the Curvv and later in the Harrier. Transmission choices might include manual, AMT, and a 7-speed DCA. A CNG option could also be in the pipeline. For the EV enthusiasts, expect a battery pack around 50kWh, delivering a claimed range of 500-550kms.
Launch and Price Points
Tata Motors has confirmed that the Curvv will first hit the roads in its EV avatar, followed by the petrol and diesel versions. The EV version is slated for a mid-June 2024 launch. As for the pricing, expect the Curvv EV to be in the range of Rs 18 to Rs 25 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The petrol/diesel variants are expected to roll out around October 2024, with an estimated price tag of Rs 13 to Rs 22 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
